According to the China National Defense Science and Technology Information Network reported that , according to Wednesday announced a $ 24.5 million contract , Northrop Grumman Aeronautical Systems Division and Raytheon Space Airborne Systems Division , joint development and installation of an advanced air-to-air and air-to-ground radar systems for Northrop Grumman’s RQ -4B global Hawk Block 40 unmanned aerial vehicle ( UAV ) .

The MP-RTIP project is developing a modular active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar system , scalable applied to different types of aircraft , especially the Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicles and the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS) Raytheon Space Airborne Systems sector is the main subcontractor for the MP-RTIP project , responsible for hardware development of the radar system .

MP-RTIP system being produced based on the Northrop Grumman previously developed radar technologies, including the Air Force E -8 Joint STARS aircraft and the existing Global Hawk radar
